New Democrats in Scarborough Southwest elect Fatima Shaban to carry the banner for upcoming by-election

SCARBOROUGH –– New Democrats in Scarborough Southwest gathered today to elect Fatima Shaban as their candidate for the upcoming Scarborough Southwest provincial by-election following a local riding association nomination meeting.

Deeply-rooted in Scarborough Southwest, Shaban is a parent, tenant organizer, and a champion for working class families in Scarborough.

Shaban has a long track record of fighting for the rights of low-to-moderate income families, and is currently organizing for her neighbours in pushing back against above-guideline rent increases.

“Working families in Scarborough Southwest need a fighter in their corner,” said Shaban. “I am deeply honoured to have the trust and support of New Democrats in Scarborough Southwest. Together, with Marit Stiles and the Ontario NDP, I am ready to deliver a more affordable future for Ontario!”

Marit Stiles, Leader of the Official Opposition Ontario NDP joined New Democrats to welcome Shaban.
